Balls made using womens knee high socks and polystyrene balls.
I really like the way that they hang, they are reminiscent of balls without being in your face about it. However the polystyrene doesn't bring anything to the sculpture - I think they either need to be made from a 'manly' material, or something overtly 'feminine'. The tights bring an element of that, but I could take it further.
Papier Mache balls. Made using balloons and covered with the article 'The High Cost of Manliness' by Robert Jensen.
These balls, although fragile definitely contains the message I want because of the paper I used. The shape is not perfect, but I am planning to add a layer of latex to see how that changes it.
These two were both much quicker experiments.
Balloons and bubble wrap: a condom and a polystyrene ball.
I like the idea of using condoms instead of balloons, but have yet to manage to make a full 'ball' without splitting the condom.
Neither of these have the aesthetic or the meaning I am going for.
