The event centered around 'journeys' and the journeys that the Roma people have undertaken in the last 1000 years. Before the event I didn't really know anything about the Roma people, my knowledge of gypsies went only so far as having watched 'my big fat gypsy wedding'.
I was shocked to hear about the persecution and terrible treatment that the Roma people have faced, everywhere they have ever gone. For me, the most shocking part of their story is that it is as bad today as ever. A Roma couple from Chorley came to the event to speak about their experiences, telling of how they have to fight everyday for simple things like school places for their children, and the right to live as they choose. I hope that events like this will help to educate people and bring about the end of this terrible racism.
