Working with John Lynch on 'what we cannot see from here' has been really interesting experience for me. Trying to make sure that my work fits into the correct brief. For a while I wasn't sure that my ideas would fit to what he wanted. I thought about looking into sound and taking a more literal sense of not being able to see the work. However through conversation with John I think my idea actually works very well. It is about not being able to see and you can only get the full impact of the tags if you CANT see them.
I am going to a TEDx conference next week and I think that will be really important for me. Following the initial two weeks of unit X I have started to see how important it is for me to attend lectures and think about issues that might not be directly linked to my work. I am also going to a Martin Creed exhibition in London next week. I am planning to use the holiday to go to exhibitions and do more research since I can't use the metal work room.
I feel like because the show is so close after Easter I have had to make some of the creative decisions very early on into the unit. I have already been working in metal and have got the tag shapes cut out and am working on filing them down as well as trying to make the braille as correct as possible.
I am excited to try new ways of making the paper tags for my research into what people like the least about themselves and I think I am also going to ask people what they like the most. I am really enjoying unit X and feeling very inspired by my work with braille and the visually impaired.
